Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack question

Here's my question:

I record HD video from my DVR to my laptop using capdvhs via a 1394 connection. It records it as a .ts file. Here's my problem, when I select "Import Media" within Vegas and select the .ts file I get an error saying "An error occurred during the current operation. An Exception has occurred."

Click on details of the error window and I see this:

Any idea what's happening? I even used HDTV2MPEG2 to convert it over to mpeg and I have the same problem. I don't have any problems importing files that were originally saved as .mpg. Could it be file size related? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

With Vegas Pro 9 I set the project to 1920x1080i/29.97 or 1280x720p/59.94 first, then drag the *.ts or *.m2t files to the timeline and all is good. My Comcast HD box dumps CapDVHS single channel IEEE-1394 streams to *.m2t files.

I'm not sure how Platinum differs.

Well the thing is, I can't even get the media to import to even be able to drag to the timeline. It errors out as soon as I select the media to import into Vegas, then when I click ok on the error window, Vegas closes.

I have Platinum 9. Haven't tried this yet, but I'm willing to give it a try and let you know. Can you post a sample file you're having the problem with? Something like rapidshare would work if it's under 100MB.

I recorded a 10 second sample HD clip. I tried to load it in MS and it still errored out. Give it a try and see if you can figure out why it's not loading.

Well here's what I've found out through Sony's website. Looks like AC3 audio is the culprit:

OK, now here are the facts (Once again, a clip is worth a thousand words):

1) It throws an exception in Vegas Pro 8.0c too. It's because these versions of Vegas do not recognize MPEG-2 transport streams with AC-3 audio. (Hopefully this will get fixed in VMSP soon).
2) You can remux your file with mp2 (MPEG-1, Layer II) audio in VideoReDo and it opens audio and video without an error in Vegas. You can use either a .ts or .mpg wrapper. The same works in AviDemux, or Super (both free), and achieve the same result. Of course it will be stereo.
3) If you actually have 5.1 surround audio in your .ts that you wish to preserve, you can transcode the audio directly as a separate 6-channel PCM file in AviDeMux and use that in Vegas or to replace the audio in DVDA.

That all being said, again, if you are making stereo DVDs from your set-top .ts files, do your editing and auto commercial removal directly in VideoReDo and open the muxed file directly in DVD Architect. I tried it and it works. The easiest approach I know of.

Well I've now been told that AviDemux has some issues with syncing so is not a good way to go. VideoReDo is supposed to be the perfect software for what I need to do. Does anyone else know of a similar (free) SW that does the same with perfect results? Otherwise I may just cough up the $50 and buy VRD.
