I'm sure you guys get this problem alot, but I'm still a n00b How would I go about putting an AVI video on a DVD-R that will play on a regular DVD player? I've tried many online guides, but something always goes wrong for me.

From what I've learned im suppose to conver the AVI to a DVD compatible MPEG2, then author it and put the video and audio files in the TSS file.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

  2. You need to Convert, Then Author and Burn. There are sections for guides on these areas over ther <=========.

Read some guides, pick one that appears to meet your requirements and try to follow it. When you have problems feel frre to come back and ask specific detailed questions regarding said problem.

No one is going to hold your hand and walk you step by step through the processes you need to follow. Also there are many ways of doing what you want not all of which will suit you.

    Help us to help you.

It's cool, don't worry about it this is not the most straightforward process you could do, but I will try to help. you will need the following programs

    Virtualdub
    dvd2svcd

Dvd2svcd requires CCE or tmpgenc and sonic

any author program you would like ( I use tmpgenc dvd author and dvdlab)

*****This is the Step people always forget and it is very important, if you don't do this you may have a bad AVI file and therefore Bad DVD******

Open your avi file in Virtualdub

Under the video tab select Direct stream copy

Under the Audio tab Selct Full Processing Mode and the following
Compression > None PCM something or other (it's the first choice)
    Conversion > 48000, 16 bit, High Quality

Under File Tab Select "Save As AVI"

this will take a couple minutes to complete

    Exit Virtualdub and reopen

Load the new AVI in Virtualdub and check to make sure the audio syncs up the way it's supposed to, if so close virtualdub, if not go under the audio tab and select interleaving and change the delay until the audio does sync up. Then go through the process from above and "Save As AVI"
Make sure you chose Direct Stream Copy under the video tab or you will have a huge file, and it will take a long time.

This should ensure that you have a good AVI File to work with in dvd2svcd

Now open DVD2SVCD this program is pretty straightforword let me know if you need help with this, but you essentially just need to go through the tabs and select the options you want.
I'll turn my back on myself, if it's my only way out.

You need to install the above noted codec in order to read your avi. Gspot is great for testing your files.
