Why is recompress always checkmarked in Premiere's export settings by default? If I forget to uncheck that option every time I edit something it will lower the AVI bitrate which means lower quality, right?
Why would anyone want to lower the quality of a AVI when exporting it?

Because every codec you export with uses compression, except Uncompressed RGB.
