Unable to burn Princo 4X DVD-R's on Sony DRU-500a at 4x

I'm not sure what's happening but I just bought a spindle of 100 Princo 4x DVD-R's and my Sony DRU-500a is only able to burn them at 2x (it actually seems slower than 2x). I'm not sure why this is happening because I've read posts of users who had the same burner and burned these DVD-R's at 4x with no problem. Could it be a software issue? So far I've tried RecordNow Max 4.5 and Nero Burning Rom and got the same 2x results.

i have SONY DRU 500AX but i think it is the same , and i have burned sucsessfully the same spindle of 100 Princo x4 whit it .The only diference is that i use Veritas Record Now DXv.4.6 that came whit my burner...

Thanks for the input. I'll give that version of RecordNow a try. The strange thing is that both Nero and RecordNow detect the DVD-R's as being 4x and still burn them at 2x. Maybe I got a bad batch.

the solution is easy ...... throw the princos in the trash they are crap disks anyway ..... seriously ... check that you have enabled dma mode for the sony drive.

Hi I use this Media with this drive and get a x4 Burn with STOMP
Have you defraged the Hd with the file on ? untill I did I only got x2 also it maybe worth checking any Anti virus software isnt checking at the time.

I'm using the latest firmware for the drive which is 2.0f. I'll give the defragging a try and disable my antivirus program when burning. This seems to be a media problem since I'm able to burn 4x TDK and 4x Memorex DVD+R's with no problem. Although I'm not having any playback problems with these Princo's that fact that they're 4x and burn only at 2x sucks.

Sonys dont like Princos, use Accus, you can get 4x from them & they are very reasonable priced....

those with a 510 can use sonys new software to read dvds 8-12x lucky:

Just discovered something weird. I just burned a Princo at 4x and then burned one right after it which burned at 2x (it was the exact same movie). I guess this proves that you get what you pay for. I'm definitely going to give the Accu's a try. Thanks for the advice.

The problem is you updated your firmware from the original version.

i have got same burner and use red datawrite classic 4x disca
have had no problems all have burnt ok.

if you want to copy dvd's use shrink 3.0 its incredible.

Ive burnt 25 working movies on princo 4 x media that work fine, (Pioneer A06) then I bought another spindle which im getting all kinds of read errors on, lock ups, skipping, im going to try another brand to confirm it was a bad batch of discs. Will let you know results...
