Just ordered my machine. (can't wait til I get it!)
I will be primarily using my DMR-E30 to dub vhs tapes to DVD to be used in many other machines.
Before I start my mass dubbings, I ordered BeAll DVD-R's.
Hopefully that will solve some of the other machine compatibility issues.
But what about the Hybrid VBR fixed/auto debate?
Is it just the sub-standard media used that craps out in other machines, or is it the Hybrid VBR setting that is not compatible.
I have read so much and haven't found any type of definative answer.
All answers seem to lie with either not using BeAll media or Not using the fixed setting, not both.
Any help, examples or tests you've made would help me greatly.
Thanks,
scottymac

But what about the Hybrid VBR fixed/auto debate?
I key you in on something will save you alot of recordings. Atleast it did with me. When you get the E30, set it to "fixed". Fixed will keep the resolution at one setting. In other words, if you are recording something, it will jump from a high resolution to a lower. Some DVD players cannot handle this when the final DVD-R is played back on them. For example, I made 2 copies of the same product and it would not play on two of my DVD players and some of the other finalized DVD-Rs would not play properly or lock up. Now that I have the setting at "fixed", all my DVD-Rs have had no problems. The Hybrid VBR has nothing to do with the Bit Rate at all. The bit rate will still go up and down wheter it's set to "fixed" or "automatic". The Hybrid VBR is really a "fixed" or "automatic" resolution setting. Hope this helps.
I have heard nothing but good things about BeAlls, so you probably made the right choice. Verbatims are good too which is what I use.
You will enjoy the E30. I know I have enjoyed mine. -
Thanks Erwin.
Did you notice a difference in quality between the two different recordings auto vs. fixed? -
"Did you notice a difference in quality between the two different recordings auto vs. fixed?"
Not at all. What I have noticed with fixed though is that "on screen text" is less blurry. This is not really a big deal either way though b/c you won't be concerned about the station logo. You will still get the same bit rates, it just won't go up and down in resolution.
