I have tried to follow the multiregion hack here
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/technika-dvdfaw08/9845
but I can not make it work.

Has anyone been successful? If so please advise what I might be doing wrong.

    If I do this -
    Turn the player On
    Open using the remote
    Press Setup
Press volume buttons Up, Down, Up, Down

I get 2 showing top right of the screen but can find no way to change it.
I found out that pressing either ZOOM or MUTE brings up technical information.

I bought this as ' Xvid compatible ' is stated on the box.
I have only tried a few *.avi files but some simply don't work and on those that do the picture is too narrow.

Unless I can change settings I think I will be taking it back for a refund.

  2. Players that support Divx/Xvid don't support all possible Divx/Xvid features. They may not support the audio used in your files. Not all AVI files use the Divx/Xvid codecs. You may be able to adjust the width of the picture with with the aspect ratio settings on the player or TV.

Here's a web site that discusses Divx/Xvid settings that don't work on some players:

I have a technika from Tesco. I have also found no way to change the region code either

What I have found is that it is very temperamental about avi files it will play. What I do is load the avi with GSpot and check that the codex is XVID and the file size is less than 1GB - this being true it will play (for me at least).
Sometimes you can use a Four CC Changer and set the codec to XVID from any of the DivX variants and it will play although one or two of the newer DivX's have failed.

If all else fails I use handbrake to recode to XviD and hope for the best although the sync sometimes suffers.

Manufacturers often change hardware during production and this can break hacks that worked in the past. A hack that works today on a model may not work at all a few months later because of those changes.

DVD players that play Divx/Xvid files won't actually play everything in those formats. Jagabo's link is good. We also have a sticky in this very section of the forums that has a more succinct list of what can problems for DVD players trying to play Divx/Xvid files. You can find it here:

  5. I haven't been able to get any codes to work for my technika dvdfaw08 either. It came from Tesco as well. I can do the volume up/down twice and get a 2 appearing, but nothing else works. I suppose you pay your money and take your choice. None of my USA DVD's work.
