  1. Sorry for the poor grammer, trying fit the question into the subject line!
For the most part,I know all standalone DVD player's are region locked,(eg:in Australia its region 4).
I had been creating VCD's of my old video collection, but when playing them in a friend's PC's DVD-ROM drive to test them,I didn't realise that they wouldn't play as the drive wa configured to play region 4 DVD's.

Now I'm worried that my home made VCD's won't play on a typical region-locked (region 4), stand alone DVD player if I haven't got any region setting's on them.

Neither TMPGenc,or Nero give anything in the way of region encoding, so my question is,will normally,(ie: Virtual Dub/AVI captured AVI converted to mpeg in TMPGenc,& burnt as a VCD in Nero), created VCD's without any region settings etc, play on a normal stand-alone region locked DVD player?

Video CDs don't have region coding, so they should play in any DVD player of any region coding that can play Video CDs. The only slight hitch might be a PAL or NTSC VCD played on the opposite-format DVD player, but even then most will convert it on the fly.

Not all PC DVD playing software can play VCD's, which may be why your disc didn't play. I usually just play the VCD's .dat files in Windows Media player. There's a lot of info on this site regarding VCD-playing software for PCs.

  3. Thank you lattedfw. I've been testing them on my CDrom drive using WinDVD, but had been concerned that my efforts would've been in vain. That's handy to know if/when I can get a DVD player, thank you.
