  1. I'm posting this here because of the sticky about selecting VCRs. I was trying to capture a PAL video through a Samsung SV-5000W. Everything was going good until about one half hour in these static noise lines starting appearing. They got progressively worse until by the end of the video is was like a storm of locusts.

I turned off the vcr, let it cool down and then cleaned the heads. Let it sit overnight and today started again. It took a bit longer this time for them to appear but they did. So, then I thought maybe it was the tape. I tried another tape and got the same thing. Then I wondered if the vcr was just getting hot. So, I turned it off, let it cool down for a couple of hours then started with the tape at my previous starting point. They static noise just started right up.

So, now I'm wondering if it has to do with the amount of tape the mechanism is pulling.

    I've uploaded a clip here:

You have to make sure to click the download button that appears beneath the words "download this file".

Is there a way to fix this VCR or is time to shop around?

    Same here, common problem.
Use an abrasive cleaning tape, and it usually goes away.

NOTE: THIS IS BAD ADVICE FOR MOST VCRS!!!! Just not this weirdo model.

It's a rebadged Panasonic AG-W1/2/3 (forget which number it is).

  4. Yep. Works fine now. Thanks guys. I ended up just bending the copper tabs a bit to touch the frame. I only use it for capturing pal videos and I only have two of them. So I captured both of them and I'll burn the avis on to blu-Ray discs so I don't lose them again.
