  1. I wanted to edit some home video .VOB files and have been trailing VideoRedo TVSuite. Seems fine, no issues with it so far.

Hopefully a quick question, I take it that VideoRedo TVSuite cannot handle fade in / out?

I have looked at the Womble site and it appears that MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0 can do this. Is this correct please?

Many thanks for any info provided

    Cheers

  2. VideoReDo does not do any fades/dissolves (it has been promised for years but never actualized). MVW can handle all sorts of transitions.

  3. VideoReDo and Womble Video Wizard, both are very good tools to invest in.
but, both misses few features, both are needed to make it complete.
Anyway it's time for me to update both in near future, if i get back to windows.

At the risk of inviting attack, I've recently been playing around with Windows Live Movie Maker and it does fades and many types of transitions. I have not tried to edit vobs, but if it doesn't handle them, it's easy enough to re-encode them into something compatible. Best of all WLMM is free if you are running Windows 7.

Windows Live Movie Maker is a curious beast. It seems to be more stable and handle more formats than the old movie maker, but then the .interface no longer has a proper timeline.

The big killer is that everything get's re-encoded, and WMV is very lossy.

  6. Many thanks for your replies.

Well I downloaded Womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0 and the fade in / out seems to work ok with that.

As a newbie to video editing, my only comment is that VideoRedo's offering seems to be easier to pick up but that is probably because it has less features.

As to buying both (gulp), not sure unless both those offering have half price xmas specials.

The only thing I would also add is as follows:

I cut / edit my video added fade in /out with womble and saved as .VOB file. I then tried to convert it to ipod size (320x240) with Handbrake (.mepg4) but on playback the audio was garbled (and video was also poor).

This did not happen with Handbrake when the .VOB files were edited with VideoRedo.

I could see that womble did allow for some type of mepg export although I did not notice mepg4 but I could not see how to set the size ie 320x240 as it kept exporting at 720.

Perhaps I just need to look harder.

    Cheers

Don't output as VOB, just as MPG. Womble only re-encodes the transitions, so the rest should be as they were before editing.
