This question is rather specialized and I hope there is a simple method. I have Pinnacle Studio 14 and I have been capturing some great movies lately. These are broadcast in widescreen, so the black bar is at the top and bottom of the screen. The station logo appears periodically in the black are at the bottom. The movie is on my PC in MPG format.

Does Pinnacle Studio have any kind of overlay capability that would let me overlay the black bar with another one, for the length of the entire movie? This would remove the logo and give me a pristeen copy.

These are for my wife's own personal collection - I have no intention of selling or giving away copies. I'd just like to make the illusion complete.

  2. If it's in the letterbox area , the general approach would be to crop the black borders then add them back. This requires re-encoding, thus some quality loss if you use a lossy format (like MPG)

I don't use Pinnacle Studio, but most free software can do this, and Pinnacle should be able to I would imagine.

Another approach would be to overlay (layer) a black strip over the logo. You could do this in vegas or premiere, so I suspect you should be able to in Pinnacle as well

  3. An option that would avoid re-encoding is to use a black subtitle to overlay the logo. Of course, this would only work if subtitles are enabled during playback.
