    Hi,

So I've long wanted to edit my videos from my JVC Everio HDD camcorder, only to be frustrated by the fact that my Mac won't acknowledge the file format (.MOD) that the videos are saved as. I finally come across ffmpegx and have my videos converted beautifully. However, the audio does not join in the conversion and I am left with mimes every time.

An amateur at best, I have no idea what to do to get it right. When I drop the .MOD files into ffmpegx, the summary shows that the original audio format is ac3. When I hit "encode", the video converts just fine. However, for some reason, the audio doesn't follow suit.

    Help?

I don't have any .MOD files to experiment with, but I would try the following: -
    - Rename .MOD to .MPG
    - Open in MPEG Streamclip and re-save as a proper .mpeg
    - Rename the MPEG Streamclip output from .mpeg to a more common .mpg suffix
    - Convert with ffmpegX to the desired output format. If a mencoder preset doesn't work, try an ffmpeg preset.
