  1. Hi,

I'm just about ready to burn. I'm doing a test with X3. Ultimately, I will burn a dual-layer back-up (no, just the movie does not fit on a single-layer, and I want to b/u extras too).

I used VOB Blanker to get rid of all the crap. So I have all the video files in a folder on my hard drive.

What I'm wondering is, is it better to burn using the video files directly to the media, or to create an ISO on your hard drive, then burn that? Does one result in better quality or more stable results than the other?

Also, I found a guide showing how to burn dvd files directly to dual-layer, but how do you do that with single layer in ImgBurn? (Of course, if doing an ISO is better, then that question is moot, but I'd still like to know...)

    Thanks for the help!

It shouldn't matter. It definitely won't change the audio or video quality. The only real advantage of ISO over files IMHO is when you are burning DL because the correct layer break position is so important. I still just burn the files in Nero if doing SL but for DL I use the PGCEdit/IMGBurn method.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Pretty much the same way, using "Build" mode. You just don't have to deal with any of the layer-break stuff (obviously).

Once you've loaded the proper directory, just press the "Build" button. Easy.

    Build mode specific guide:

The latest version of IMGBURN allows you to preview the LB candidates -- so I just use IMGBURN now instead of the PGCedit/Imgburn method...

  5. Thanks for the posts!

Okay, so when I'm burning dual-layer, I should use ImgBurn to create an ISO on my hard drive, then burn the ISO image to the dual-layer media also with ImgBurn. Is that correct?

If it's single layer, then if I've got video files, there's really no reason to create an ISO first, just let ImgBurn do a burn directly to the single-layer media per the guide that's linked above in Jim44's post. Correct?

Just want to make sure I'm understanding...

So, with all that in mind, what's the use of the option to create an ISO for a single-layer burn?

    Thanks!

Maybe you don't have a burner! ISO images (of any size) can always be mounted via emulation software (Deamon Tools) for later installation/game play/etc. Or how about archiving multiple SL ISO images onto a DL disk??

Whether you are burning Dual or Single layer, you can do it either way -- create the ISO Image, then burn the image. Or just burn the DVD Folders directly to disc...

    bloomcounty,

As GeorgeW mentioned, the latest version of ImgBurn lets you proview the layer break choices before choosing one, so unless you have some specific purpose in mind that requires creating an ISO, there's no longer any need to make one for single layer or dual layer burns.

I agree! except I've had a few backups not play properly on certain movies , so I'll create an ISO and burn that with success....Also you may give DVDRB a try, it gives an option to backup main movie+extras= DVD-5. I have it and it works, trust me!!!!!!

  10. Here's another guide specific to burning DL video_ts files straight to disc.

    http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1780

Use the same method for SL discs, only difference, you won't have to deal with the layer break stuff.

If you have the video_ts files on your hard drive already, you do not have to create an ISO first, it just adds another unnecessary step, your layer break will not be affected. This applies to both SL and DL.
