  1. I just got a new computer, and finished downloading a basketball game, but it says I need a video codec. When I try to play it in Windows Media, the only thing that works is the audio.

    File Type: AVI (xvid)
    Audio Format: MPEG Layer-3

What codec(s) do I need? Would you be able to link me to where I can download it?

The only player I have right now is Windows Media, what are some others I may need for video playing? Could you please link me to those as well?

You can play everything with VLC, it has all codecs built-in.

But if you would like to use Windows Media Player install latest ffdshow.

Or just install the latest divx codec.

You can also download and use gspot. Just run gspot, open the file that won't play, and it will show you what codec(s) are needed. Then just download and install the needed codecs.
