Can Codec ID/Codec Hint make a difference on the video?

I used MediaInfo and there are video files with DX50 or divx as codec id and codec hint but it's writing library is xvid and there are others with xvid codec id and so its writing library. what is the difference?

Divx and Xvid are both MPEG 4 part 2 video encoders. In theory any program or device that can play one can play the other. In practice, some programs and devices may have problems with one or the other depending on what settings were used.

The fourcc DX50 is used by Divx 5 and later versions of it's encoder (Divx 6 and 7 produce video data that is compatible with Divx 5 playback software and devices). The fourcc XVID is used by Xvid by default. Xvid can be set to use DX50 or DIVX instead. MediaInfo calls this the "Codec" but translates it into a more readable form. Eg, instead of seeing DX50 you see Divx 5.

There is often a JUNK chunk within an AVI file to align video frames on a 512, 1024, 2048 or 4096 byte boundary. That chunk can contain the name and version of the program that created the file.

The first video chunk in the AVI file may also contain information about the encoder that created the video stream. MediaInfo calls this the Writing Library.
