  1. Anyone know whether Nero can produce data DVDs (containing HTML, PDFs) that can be read by PCs and Macs?

Absolutely. But if you're still unsure, try a test CD-RW/DVD-RW, and write a normal data disc.

  3. That was quick!

Any idea which DVD format I should choose to be PC/MAC compatible? DVD-ROM (ISO), DVD-ROM (UDF), DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)

As DVD's are "supposed" to always be premastered using (at least) the UDF filesystem, which is natively supported by Win98SE and higher, and by MacOS8.5 and higher. That should do the trick. Now, if you want the Macs to also see their usual ResourceFork stuff, you'd want to make a Hybrid (aka Bridge) disc. This can be done in Toast on the Mac, and with much more difficulty using a combination of tools (incl. Macdisk/MacImage) on the PC.

edit: To clarify--always use UDF or UDF/ISO (or maybe UDF/ISO/Joliet/HFS )

  5. Thanks for that. I know nothing about Macs. Is it any real disadvantage if a Mac user does not see their "ResourceFork stuff"

    Depends.
OSX has changed that somewhat, to make macs less dependent upon that stuff. Much more like Unix and WinPC's--file extensions, only data forks, etc.
Older macs REQUIRE them, not just for correct file associations, but lots of stuff might reside in the resource fork.
