How can I make this mpeg dvd compliant, so it will play correctly in my dvd player? Currently I am using TDA to edit, then copytodvd to burn to disc. Problem is since the source is 480x480, which is not dvd compliant, my dvd player isn't playing it properly. Right now when played the video is off centered.

What program can make this mpeg(480x480) into one that is dvd standard ? Freeware would be a plus, but all ideas welcome. Thanks

Top left corner of this page is a link marked What is DVD ?

Have a read of to find out what is compliant. Use g_spot to tell you what framerate you have, from there you can choose a resolution. I would suggest half-D1 will be best.

Your other coice is to put a border around it to bring it up to spec.

    Either solution requires re-encoding.

Sounds like a SVCD. SVCD2DVD would be one way. Or look in 'Convert' for SVCD to DVD conversion. <<<<< Assuming it is a standard SVCD. If not, you may have to dig a little deeper for converting.

I've used DivxToDVD for that conversion also; There's still a free version available.

  4. You could use the TMPGEnc encoder to convert your MPEG to DVD compliant MPEG-2. Choose the correct DVD template and re-encode.

However you have to take care of audio. DVD will usually have AC3 audio. So you may need the AC3 plugin for TMPGEnc. Or convert to LPCM because some DVD players may not play MP2 or MP3 audio.

  5. Most DVD players will play a DVD made from SVCD spec video. You just need to change the audio to 48KHz then author. Use an authoring program that ill accept the SVCD like DVDLab and you're set.

The mpeg is a show recorded off Tivo.

I tried TMPGEnc encoder but it says the file is not supported?

mats.hogberg how would I just use dvd patcher?

    Size 480x480
    Aspect Raio 4:3
    Framerate 29.970
    bitrate 3500000

Quite a while ago (a year or so ago) I wonderded about this same thing. At that time I had an ADS instant DVD usb device that either did dvd vcd or svcd. The 1/2 ht DVD would require hours and hours of computer time after the initial capture. What I did and I was surprised that it worked was capture in SVCD mode using m2v and 48 audio. Then ran it thru an older version of muxman and within 3 or 4 minutes I had a Compliant ? DVD that would play on my stand alones. I was amazed how quick and easy it was.

Try IFOEDIT. It does no compliance checks. I converted a few SVCD's this way and they play on all of my DVD players. The 480x480 played normally and the 44100 audio also worked.

Patch the size to any DVD compliant size, like 352x480. That will make the mpg accepted by most authoring apps, and most DVD players will play it as if it was a regular DVD.

Do I patch just the first header or the whole thing?

  12. The first header, but be sure to check out your SVCD-DVD on various players, as this method does not work well for all players if you want to put more than 1 SVCD on a DVD. Some players will play the first SVCD part fine, but then have the rest of the files wrong, only filling part of the screen. Get SVCD2DVD and make your life MUCH easier. For about $18, it's well worth the cost.

The link below shows a method that also works great, but is MUCH more time consuming than using SVCD2DVD

I use the DVDPatcher method. I patch the entire file and all of the files if there's more than one. After authoring be sure to patch the movie VOB's (but not the menu VOB) back to 480x480. Quick and easy.

I author the patched mpegs with TDA which upsamples the audio for you.

Exactly as shown. And I've never had a reason to patch it back. (But if you do, patch it back from 352 to 480 width again.) Only anomaly is that TDA chapter thumbs are squished, but I can live with that. (Or ditch the chapter menu.)

It's a non-standard format so each player will handle it different (and some not at all). If I don't patch it back to 480x480 then I can't get a proper display for the movie on my player. It's a quick adjustment which makes it acceptable for some players.
