Been trying to convert some avi's into dvd compliant mpeg 2 files to make dvds with mainconcept mpeg encoder, but everytime so far the output mpg has no audio when i play it in various media players. Choosing layer 2 for audio, and dvd for mpeg type. Opened the mpg in gspot and that says that audio stream is layer 2, so im baffled why theres no sound when played in vlc, nero showtime etc.... any help would be grreatly appreciated

Maybe it can't read/decode the audio format in the original files. Try demuxing the audio from one of the original files and converting it to a format recognized by mainconcept mpeg encoder.

Thanks for your reply, the avi files have mp3 audio, can't mainconcept mpeg encoder encode mp3 to layer 2?

VBR MP3 is very difficult for most MPEG encoders to read, so that may be your problem. The 'standard' fix is to extract the MP3 as a WAV audio file using VirtualDub with Full audio processing, then use that with your encoder. Or mux it back in with the video with VD. Or convert it separately to AC3 with ffmpeggui or similar and add it back during authoring.

Thanks for your replies. I used vdub to change the mp3 audio from vbr to cbr (direct streaming the video) but still no sound on output mpg. I guess the mainconcept mpeg encoder has trouble with encoding mp3, so i'll try your suggestions, thanks a lot
