Well, I usually use programs like VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod to encode a DivX video to Xvid. I was wondering if there are any more ways, preferably more efficient quality keeping ways.

    - Thanks.

  2. The easiest and fastest way to assure quality is to use Xvid's single pass quantization (constant quality) mode. Select the quality you want and encode. At Q=2 the output will be nearly identical to the input. At Q=3 there will be a little macroblocking if you look at still frames but you won't notice it at normal playback speeds. At Q=4 macroblocks will be slightly visible on normal playback.

But what is the point of converting Divx to Xvid? They're essentially the same codec (both MPEG 4). You'r just losing quality by reencoding. If you have some device that requires Xvid you can try using a fourcc changer to change the fourcc code from DX50 to XVID.

Have you tried AVI ReComp listed in the tools. I use it to re-encode files for my Philips DVP642 (some aren't standalone compliant). I tried so many programs including VirtualDub and AutoGK but AVI ReComp has got everything perfect so far. Give it a try - you have nothing to lose.
