Hi,
I'm new to the depth of video recording and conversion. So please tolerate my lack of knowledge..
I searched the forum for the things i requested but couldn't find anything particular..Maybe I missed some messages in between threads...Anyway here are my inquiries:
I'm recording online video streams (such as youtube videos) with Snagit..I have a couple of codecs on my pc and tested every single one with highest quality(if available) and 20-30 fps rate.My codecs include:
I read on your forums that x264 was a good codec but couldn't find one that was compatible with win7 32-bit..
- Microsoft Video 1 (Default I guess)
- Intel IYUV
- Cinepak codec by radius
- Xvid MPEG-4
- ffdshow video
- MJPG_MainConcept Video 3.2.4
- Cedocida DV codecs(SD format)
- Helix YV12 YUV
Anyway,I tested these out and found "Helix" to be the one with the best results in video quality. But end up with a 500mb/min video.
Sorry for the long and dreadful text..Any help would be very much appreciated
- What codec should I use to get better results?
- What would happen if I were to record it as Helix again, but then convert it after editing the video with software?(I use pinnacle Studio)
Thanks,
Mukunku

videos like youtube aren't streams per se. they are files that are sent to your computer and watched while downloading. the best way to get those videos is to download the original file in it's original format to your computer. use something like downloadhelper for firefox.

I just said youtube as an example.I wouldn't write that much text when I KNOW I can download youtube videos.I'm actually using it to record videos from omegle.com and chatroulette.com.These are live video streams which I don't think are downloadable.I didn't think anyone would just say "download the videos from youtube" instead of answering my questions. My bad though.I'm using it for omegle.com.

I will. The community at doom9 were alot more helpful.Instead of making snide remarks and irrelevant suggestions, they actually helped.

I just said "Have a nice day" as an example. I didn't really mean it.

There will come a day when Doom9(?) will not come through for you. And I will be here to remind the very helpful people here that your second post here was this:
In response to your her first post:
You made an honest mistake.....then came back to blame others for it?
IF you did post the question on Doom9....did you mention recording YouTube videos?
I bet not.
