In FCP, when exporting a file using compressor, MPEG2, you can set the maximum bit rate and the target bitrate...ultimately for DVD Pro burning.

If I have plenty of room and want the best quality, I was told to NEVER exceed a target bit rate of 5.7 and a maximum of 6.5, much less than the maximum because it will not increase the final dvd's quality and will be unplayable in many dvd players that would otherwise have been able to play it.

If I have the room on the media, what is the highest i should/could go?

I'm not at my Mac now so please excuse any misnomers.

    thanks

If you get a BitRate Calculator, which you WILL need if you are serious about DVD Creation,
you can calculate EXACTLY what you need
as far as your Target and Max bit rates.

I will only give you this: Their is rarely a need to exceed
6.0 MAX on the discs I have created, rarely even
    still exceed 7.0 MAX.

The BitRate Calculator is an essential tool, go get it.

here's another calc to check out. this is one i like a lot. but you only really need to use one if you're going to have more than 90 minutes, or a ton of ROM content. and i'd always ac3 the audio too. and most calc let you factor this in too.
