hi im basically new to this forum and video editing/capture/convert and i need your expert advise on my problem.

my question is about burning mpeg to vcd.

i captured video from video 8 tape using the dvd mpeg format (720x480) then burn/convert to vcd. When the vcd is played on a dvd player, some over-enlarged pixels (of different colors, like a 'noise') appear from time to time covering portions of the video.

    my questions are:
    1. is this related to how i convert the video to vcd?
    2. is it caused by the cd writer?
    3. is it video player related?
    4. is it CDR (quality) related?
    5. or is it related to the burn speed? i use 16x burn speed.

    capture card: leadtek tv2000xp expert
capture and converter software: ulead visual studio 8 SE DVD

or anyone can suggest a better way to convert vhs to vcd. thanks.

VCD bitate shortage - high motion scenes. Better/worse depending
on encoder used and amount of noise in original source. Best vcd encoder (my opinion) TMPGenc.

Best way for best quality vcds >

    1. Capture to avi (HuffyUV or mjpeg) highest res possible without drop frames.

    2. Break vcd standards and use 2 pass vbr when encoding (TMPGEnc)
(never had any problem on any standalones with these) . Drop audio bitrate (wont notice) to achieve more video bitrate - (96/128kbs) - more useful for 1-disk vcds.

As you're aiming for VCD, there's nothing gained by capturing above VCD res. Only waste.
