Looking into building a HTPC that would record OTA HD signal/and satelitte HD content, but need it converted to a HD divx format in order to be played by the XBOX (XBMC), any help would be appreciated

The standard xbox doesn't support any hd video sources. Wouldn't be better to play directly from the HTPC?

You won't be able to automate the conversion. The Xbox Media Center (Baldrick - that is apparently what XBMC means) can play some high def stuff. I've read that 720p WMV works. Don't know about Divx. I'd advise sticking to 720p for best results. You need to take a look at this website for some very discouraging news about what the Xbox Media Center can and can't do:
    http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/?title=What_is_XBMC_%26_What_Can_it_Do%3F
Your Xbox will require a mod to even attempt to play 720p video.

I'm not happy with any of the currently available (in the USA at least) streaming solutions for HD. I'd dearly love to find something that could reliably play:
    HD Divx
HD MPEG-2 from American broadcast TV captures
    HD WMV
HD H.264 (I could live without this, but it would be nice for the future)
Everything I have read about has a show stopper of some kind, at least for me. And when I say play HD-something, I mean up to 1080p, not just playing 720p OK.

    Thanks guys

What I meant was...I would record HD content on the computer and then have a program to auto convert into HD DIVX or HD Xivd, XBMC can in fact play HD Divx files:

The computer would be nothing more than a media server, and I would use XBMC as the front end

Missed the XBMC. . So yes 1280x720p HD divx and xvid works.

I haven't seen any software that let you do it automatically like convert all files from a folder or something. I would probably use autogk and make hd xvid from the ts. But it depends what kind of ts, if mpeg4 h264 ts I don't think it will work that well.

I didn't realize that the original XBOX could output anything more than 480p....

Xvid/Divx appear to mostly work at 720p, but anything else requires a modded Xbox. Note that I said "mostly" as there may be some 720p Divx/Xvid videos that have problems. The only way to reliably get these to work is to have a modded Xbox with a faster CPU.
