  1. I was using Sony DCR-PC9 camcorder connecting through IEEE 1394 to edit my home video. I have no problem until recently. Now as soon as turn on the camcorder, I can see the Windows XP connection box showing up and ask which program to use to do the capturing. However, the box will show about 1 second and disappear immediately. If I open Moive Maker 2, and select "capture from video device", it will say "A video capture device was not detected". If I turn off camcorder, open the Moive Maker 2, and then turn on the camcorder, Moive Maker will detect the camcorder and show the box that ask which folder I want to save captured file, but immediately, it wll show an error say something like " video device connection error...".

Seems to me as soon as I turn on the camcorder, Windows XP will detect the connection, and then detect the disconnection immediately, even though the camcorder is still coneected and turned on.

    Any help are greatly appreciated.

This may be out in left field but who knows.

On another forum there was a post about connection problems (dv, rca & s-video).

The problem was traced/found to be a weak/poor power supply

  3. After my post, I have done some searches on internet on this problem, and found several mentions about Winodws XP SP2 impact on IEEE 1394 card. I remembered that my problem was happening after I installed SP2. So I followed the instruction on the internet, which is to replace IEEE 1394 drivers in SP2 with the ones in SP1.

    After that, things work again.

If you have similar problem, it worthes a try.
