Problem Connecting PC to TV via HDMI

I currently have a Vista Home Premium connected to my TV using a DVI to HDMI cable. The picture quality is excellent, and I can't see myself going back to VGA. There is one problem that is really frustrating - if I change the input on my TV to something else (say, to play my Xbox), and then switch back to HDMI (my PC), the signal does not get picked up.

This also happened on my XP machine before it went belly up. Aside from restarting the machine or remoting in to my main machine with my laptop (which I can not seem to set up correctly in Vista), the screen display does not appear. Recently I have found that taking out the DVI cable and re-plugging it back in makes the picture appear on the screen, but this is not a practical solution.

Connecting my PC to the TV using DVI to VGA does not have this problem - I can switch to other inputs, turn the TV off and on, and still as soon as I select the VGA input on my TV, my computer display instantly appears. What is stopping my HDMI connection doing the same?

Try updating the drivers of your graphics card. Maybe there is a glitch somewhere.

I think I have had that symptom from time to time with my own dvi-hdmi cable. I'd end up rebooting or flat out turning it off to get it back. But I don't think I've had that problem recently.

By the way for your xbox did you start with component cables and then get the vga cable? I don't have a hdmi xbox so I started with component which was ok. But I finally bought a vga cable and set it to 1360x768 and was amazed at the differnce. Halo3 is lightyears better now - though my set is 1366x768 so I have to use the fill mode to get the last tiny bit filled.
