  1. How does MPlayer decode compare with QuickTime decode?

I've been using QT decode ever since the option was available in ffmpegX and it has converted every DVD I've tried with perfect sync.

Yesterday I tried MPlayer decode with various settings and it never gave me an in sync result. Has anyone had success with it?

  2. Using mplayer to decode is useful when you need to add subtitles to a VCD/SVCD/DVD, or, when your source is a VIDEO_TS folder. mplayer is frame-based while QT is timecode-based.

  3. so if you process the video_ts folder with mplayer you should end up with in-sync files?

  4. For PAL material, most likely yes. For NTSC material, sometimes not (in such cases you have to use Quicktime to decode).

  5. Speaking of QT Decode... Now that I've updated to Panther and QT 6.4, the MPEG-2 decoder doesn't work. I can't read MPEG-2 in QT nor will ffmpegX work with the QT Decode option checked. I looked on Apple's site and it says I can go to the Apple store and download the update for it to work. When I go to my account, there is no option to download the update. Anyone know of another place I can get it?

  6. The Apple Store should let you review your history of previous software purchases. Select it, select Download, and you should be able to download it again.
