Tools section under "Codecs", DL and install the Xvid codec.
-
The stand-alone XviD (and DivX) codec also has the ENcode part that I don't want/need. That's why I'm asking if there is a version that DEcodes only.
Thanks. -
Well you just said you did not want to install ffdshow , other then the 1 Xvid codec i don't know, you may be out of luck
OR... you could always look at the official Xvid site http://www.xvid.org/ -
I was wondering about MPCHC -- if it has DivX/XviD decoders built-in, that should do the trick.
But, I was reading a review of MPCHC by flashandpan007 (in the Tools section) who said "Use it with ffdshow and be happy.", and thought you needed to install ffdshow to get MPCHC to play DivX/XviD AVI's, like you have to do with "regular" MPC. If he meant use ffdshow to get a bunch of other codecs, then I think MPCHC is the way I'll go.
Thanks, jagabo. -
Are you afraid they're going to start encoding and distributing movies?
Our free DivX Plus Codec Pack includes decoders for both DivX and H.264 - our H.264 decoder is one of the fastest our there, and you have the option of enabling DXVA if you have a graphics card that supports hardware acceleration.
More info is here: http://www.divx.com/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
It was just updated last month, so you're going to be getting the latest and greatest, especially if you're using Windows 7. -
I also am at a complete loss to explain the horrors of installing software with the potential ability to encode. I've installed the installation pack from divx.com on several systems that I have no intention of encoding on. And unless things have changed, don't you have to pay anyway for the encoding part to work?
-
Yeah i did not get it either but if he just wanted something to play them won't VLC work also ?
I never knew MPCHC had it's own Xvid/Divx decoder.
I never worried about it and just installed the Xvid codec, it's not like it takes up like 20gbs & slows everything down -
The "DivX Pro" portion of the codec enables advanced options, the Video For Windows hooks, and unlimited use of the DivX profiles in DivX Converter, but if you're only installing the DivX Plus Codec Pack for decode, you shouldn't need Pro.
What's changed in the latest DivX for Windows release is the DivX Plus Player allows you to transcode to USB/disc for free using DivX to Go, which has a transfer wizard helps you match the right video format to your DivX certified device. Also in the latest, the DivX Plus Converter will create DivX Plus HD files (H.264/MKV) completely free, even after the trial.
But again, the installer lets you choose to install only the DivX Plus Codec Pack if that's all you need - you can uncheck the boxes and do a bare-bones Codec Pack install.
