  1. What is the best method to convert a raw AVI (I have a Pinnacle Studio Analogue to Digital capture kit rigged up to my PC and VCR) to DivX?

I have used Stoik Video Convertor but the DivX avi that it outputs is very jumpy. And when I try to use VirtualDub, it estimates the file saize at about 1.6 Gigabytes. When it really should be at about 600-700 Megabytes.

So what is the best method to convert a raw avi to a DivX avi? At the moment I have just captured a movie from VHS to a raw avi (which is actually a best quality MJPEG).

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Did you check the bitrate? If it's set too high, the file will be huge. I prefer 1000-1500.

  3. Dont know how to. Do you mean the bitrate of the DivX to be output?

How do I do it in VirtualDub?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. yes, the DivX file to be output.

    In VirtualDub, select:

    Video>Compression>DivX Codec>Configure>Bitrate Control>Encoding bitrate

The default bitrate is set at 780. Maximum is 4000. But I prefer 1000-1500.

Don't forget to compress the audio as well if the original file is PCM.
