  1. I am trying to capture from a 25 fps PAL VHS source (from camcorder, not film) to
SVCD but I get crappy results. I use the following method:

    1. Capture to AVI with huffyuv in 640x480 with the hauppage
tv tuner card (yes it can be done!)

    2. Convert to SVCD with TMPGEnc, using standard SVCD setting
and interlace encoding with field order : bottom field first (field B), motion search precision set to highest quality

    3. Burn to SVCD with VCDimager or nero.

Now the problem is when I play the discs in my standalone DVD player the picture is kinda shaky. Not as shaky if as if you choose the wrong field order, but it's still very irritating!

If anyone has any ideas why please let me know

    thanx

  3. Please tell me how you captured @ 640x480

  4. You should either capture all of the lines(576) or half of them(288). Anything in between will definitely cause problems.

  5. well, the first thing that you're doing wrong is that you're trying to make a svcd out of a vhs.. it doesn't matter how many filters you apply, the result will be the same as if you captured to vcd format. capturing to vcd will also eliminate your problem of interlacing since a vcd stream is only 1/2 resolution and records only one field. however, if you insist on capping to svcd, then my only comments would be to capture at proper PAL svcd resolution, make sure that your max. bitrate does not peak above what your standalone can handle, and to make sure that your standalone can play the cd-r's you're using.
