  1. Has anyone a god setting for Tmpgenc. I'd like to encode some videos to Mpeg1 Pal. It has to be DVD compatible.

  2. If you're encoding for VCD you should use the PAL VCD template. But if your scource (for example) is 29.97 fps (NTSC) you should encode that way (NTSC-VCD, not NTSC/Film) because otherwise your movie will stutter. There shouldn't be any problem for your DVD (standalone) player, it could probably play NTSC video-cd (at least mine can, and I heard that almost all can).

    Guessing here - you wish to encode VHS tape to MPEG1 and play on a DVD standalone !

    I use the following TMPEGenc settings and get (IMHO) excellent results (considering the source - VHS tape)

    NTSC - [PAL just change 240 -> 288 ]
    352 - 240 capture , 352 - 240 mpeg1 @ 2500 video and 128 audio BR.
    UNDER :
    video tab : MPEG1 , 2 pass VBR @2500 (see if your DVD will read this) and 'highest quality'
    advanced tab : i use 'progressive' and VGA1:1 (WHY you ask - well i am plannning for future and just making mostly MPEG1 for now in the hope most TV of the future will just be glorified computer monitors)
    GOP tab i use I - 1 , P - 5, B - 2 , seq - 0

    output is very good when viewing MPEG1 through my TV out on my video card to my TV. the VCD i have made seem to have a little more 'blockiness' - but not much

    more help here
