  1. I have a MESS of downloaded video from over the years that I'm now trying to get onto DVD-R somehow.

Followed a couple of guides here and elsewhere to convert (mostly) Mpeg-1 video to something DVD compliant for my player. Not working out so far.

The first video I've tried is 2 minutes 17 seconds long, 24 fps, 240 x176. File size is 24.7 MB. Problem right now is, TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 shows it as only 36 seconds long (yes, it cuts off over 3/4 of the video, I checked it). ConvertXtoDVD shows it as only 30 seconds long. What the heck is going on here?

Video plays just fine on multiple computers, both PC and Mac, using multiple operating systems and codecs. Quality's not great, but I'm just trying to archive stuff here - I don't really care. As long as the quality doesn't go down from this point, I'm good.

    HELP! Please?

    Run them through super > output as mpeg1 , audio as ac3 , 48khz , stereo .
    Resize to Pal = 352x288 , 25fps , or nstc = 352x240 ... you need to check fps required .
    Encoder used - memcoder .

Upscaling may cause block artifacts to appear in video .
Video bitrate , set to vcd max bitrate ... or some dvd authoring tools may want to re-encode the video later .

Demux resulting clips using batchdemux , even vobedit can demux them , or mpeg stream clip .
Seperate video / audio streams .

Author dvd using prefered program , some try to re-encode the video , some include option to disable this , check manual .

Playback on pc using prefered player .

Note : Pc's will play anything , home dvd players wont .

If nav issues appear , use pgcedit to quickly correct them , and retest play back .

If happy with result , burn to dvd-r , 4x , max file size count is 4.3 ... verbatim or ty's is best .

    Burn using imgburn .

If dl media required , burn with imgburn , and use only verbatim dl's .

  5. bjs,

thanks very much for your suggestions. I'm downloading super right now. I may have a problem using it, though, as I only have an older AMD Athlon (Thunderbird Socket A) 950. Super requires a P4 1800 or better. We'll see... I don't mind if it runs a little slow - I'll just run it overnight instead.

    My normal DVD Process:
DVD Decrypter (rip)--> Womble MPEG-VCR (editor) --> DVD Lab-Pro 1.53 (author, also demuxes/remuxes just fine - never had a sync issue in 150 DVD's so far) --> IMG Tool Classic (create ISO image) --> IMG Burn. Yes, there are one or two extra steps here, but it works, and I've never made a coaster or had a DVD be unplayable in any set-top, portable, or computer I've tried it in (30 different devices so far and counting). I use ONLY TY 8x DVD-R's for final burns. I do have a small supply of Memorex Japanese-made -R's that I bought before I found TY's which also work 100% so far. I use 'em for giveaway discs and when I don't have any blank -RW's available.

Thanks for the tip on Verbatim DL's. My drive is capable, but I've yet to try any (prices on media). I'm gonna look at current prices and see if I can afford to try some.

Download's done... Time to install super and see if it'll do the job... I'll post back with any results.

  6. OK, here's what Super says:

It still says 34 sec 833 ms running time for the first video. Actual running time is 2 min 17 sec.
Also, AC3 sound isn't available under MPEG-1. Yes, MEncoder is checked.

I don't really know what else to do here.

  7. OK... This is weird.

I installed and ran it through VCDGear 3.55. Now, the video says 1 minute 15 sec. However, this is the strange part:

The video does now play TO THE END. However, after the 1 min 15 sec point, the video is pixelated, and has kind of a half & half look (like it was cut in half horizontally, and the next frames' video is shown in the top half).

VCDGear showed 8 repairs done to the video. Method was mpg-->mpg, with just "Fix MPEG Errors" checked.

It's nice to have a semi-fixed file now, but the half & half thing has to go.

    What else can I do?
