  1. Hi,

I've recorded a TV show on my Samsung DVD/HD recorder and burned it to a DVD. I finalized the DVD and I can watch the show on other DVD players. So far, so good.

But I would now like to rip the show as a DIVX or AVI. I tried DVD Decrypter but it keeps telling me that the DVD isn't a real Video DVD since there is no VIDEO_TS folder ?

My (self-burned) DVD has the following structure:

    /DVD_RTAV
    /DVD_RTAV/VR_MANGR.IFO (19 kB)
    /DVD_RTAV/VR_MOVIE.VRO (2 684 794 kb)

What am I missing or how can I rip this DVD?

    Thanks a lot.

It's a sticky in the DVD to DVDR forum.
    If in doubt, Google it.

dvd_ratv is not dvd-video so you can't use dvd decrypter but you don't have to use any ripper from a home dvd.

Try just copy the .vro and rename to .mpg and try convert to avi divx with virtualdubmod or autogk. Or use tmpgenc dvd author to import the dvd-vr and export it as a .mpg file that you then can convert to any format.

Or save as ordinary dvd-video on your samsung dvd-recorder. Not dvd-vr, dvd-ram formats.

    VR_MOVIE.VRO

When I record to a DVD-RAM disk ... I have that type of structure.

If it is a normal DVD-R or DVD+R ... you used that other option.

Sorry but at the moment I can't remember and I'm at work so I don't
    have any info available.

Can you open the Disk and see it in windows explorer ??

How about just copy and paste to a folder in your computer.

    I've gotten by just renaming it ... VR_MOVIE.VRO >>> VR_MOVIE.mpg

  5. Ok, thanks a lot guys.

I tried to copy it from the DVD to the HD but at about 45 seconds from the end I always get an 'incorrect parameter' error!?

I'll try to use tmpgenc and I'll look whether I can copy the show from the recorder HD to the DVD as an ordinary DVD Video (the dvd_ratv thingie was the default ...).

You can use Avidemux (free program) to convert .VRO file to .MPG file.

If you can't copy the file you can't do any conversion. Maybe some crappy media or your dvd reader has problem with just that media.

    Is it a DVD-RAM disc?

  8. No, it was a DVD-RW. I also found where I could switch the formatting of the DVD to DVD-V instead of DVD-VR. So that works fine now! Thanks again.

If the disk works on DVD-player then the media is ok.
I think the problem is with reading DVD-RW disks. Use DVD-RAM if you can.
Read DVD-RW disk with UltraIso (by making an image) and extract the .VRO file to harddisk. Use Avidemux (free program) to convert .VRO file to .MPG file.
