  1. Hello, all.

Once again, I've got ye old "ac3 audio decompressor not found" within VirtualDubMod. (A seasonal occurence that drives me batty.) Of course, the solution is installing the single AC3 ACM codec, but I can't seem to do that on my new Vista64 machine. (Right-clicking on the INF file does not work.)

Can I install AC3 ACM within Vista64? If not, what's the work around for fixing my VDM problem?

    Thanks!

Installing the 32bit version on Windows 64

Extract all the files to a folder

Open up a command prompt (start->run: cmd)

Change directories to sysWOW64 ("cd C:\windows\syswow64")

Type the following (replace example_path with the actual path to the extracted files), then hit enter:
    rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\example_path\AC3ACM.inf

This method can also be used for installing other 32bit codecs such as Huffyuv that install via a .inf file.

DarrellS, you are my hero. I spent the last few days pulling my hair out trying to get Virtualdub to play an AVI with AC3 encoded audio. I installed AC3 ACM using your above command line string and it works! Thank you so much!

  4. Does the old approach work with Vista x64?

Making 32-bit VFW-ACM codecs available to XP 64-bit Edition.

I never upgraded to Vista so it's a mystery to me.
