I just downloaded and installed the AC3 ACM audio codec for Virtualdub-mpeg2, after not being able to edit/hear some mpeg2 video files. Everything seemed to go fine when I installed it but when I opened up acouple of the videos I was working with, the audio would play but it was broken up or choppy sounding...

So I unistalled the codec because I didn't think I would need it (since it wasn't working right) and now I have no sound! I just tried playing acouple of .avi's with .wav audio and some .mp3s and they won't work either. It seems to have disabled audio of the whole computer.

I searched the forums, but couldn't seem to find any info on this kind of subject. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do before I reformat and reinstall everthing?

I would check your audio settings first. I would suspect you have audio disabled or turned down there. 'Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices'

If that's not the problem, you could try dropping one of your files into Gspot to see if the codecs are really there. It would seem strange that uninstalling AC3 ACM would have any effect on other codecs.

You can also go to 'Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Hardware>Audio Codecs>Properties>Properties'. That should list all the audio installed codecs.

That's what was doing it! The main "volume control" was just turned all the way down.

I wish I would have check that before posting this message. I just tried installing and uninstalling the codec again and apparently it turns the volume down everytime I uninstall it...

Well, atleast it wasn't something serious. Thanks for your help!
