TMPGenc 352x576 output size

Hi there,

I'm trying different settings to create a PAL DVD compliant output file from an AVI file, with TMPGenc Plus 2.521.58.169. The problem is, when I change the resolution from 720x576 to 352x576, the output file size remains the same! Shouldn't it turn to something like half, for example? Thanks in advance,

Answer:

WTF ???

The reason why the file size stays the same isn't in any guide.

The file size is determined by the combined bitrate of your video and audio.

If video = 1150kbps, audio = 224kbps, running time = 60 seconds,

then size (MB) = 60*(1150 + 224)/(8 * 1024).

File size is not influenced by the screen size. What you need to do is reduce the bitrate to reduce the file size.

Thanks for the help guys! I has confused by the description that TMPGenc gives "Quality is relatively sacrificed, but the length of movie can be much longer". Shouldn't this "much longer" also mean "less size"?!?

Only when coupled with less bitrate.

You have running time and bitrate, like Jimmalenko says. You're somewhat confused. You don't NEED as much bitrate at half D1, but if you give it the same bitrate, it'll be the same size. Get it?

Oh, I'm really dumb... It doesn't matter the size of the car: if your driving at a certain speed, you'll always complete the same distance, in a certain time interval!!! Thanks.

Or how about....If the fuel consumption is the same then you go the same distance on a tank of gas. Bigger cars need more gas (higher bitrate) so they don't go as far, smaller cars can burn gas more efficiently (lower bitrate) and they can go much further.
