pioneer 106d 1.07 not reading dvd-r

It reads the dvd-r only on occasion. It seems like this problem came out of nowhere.The drive can read everything else (dvd's cdr ext...)

I was backing up a movie it seemed like everything was fine but when i press the eject button it dosnt open the drive. the only time it will open after that is when i reboot. Also now it only is recognized as 1x.

Unless you are having other problems with your computer, or you have recently installed programs that may interfere with your burner, it sounds like the burner itself is going bad. You can try a few of the standard 'cures'; Restore to an earlier setup (If you are using XP), delete your IDE controllers and let the OS reinstall, Use Nero Info Tool 207 to see what your drive setup is, and probably a few more I can't think of just now.
