DivX 5.0 not readable in Virtualdub

I am sorry if this had been answered before. GSpot tells me I have 4 compatible Codec for a Divx5.0 (DX50) AVI file. But when I open it in VirtualDub, VDub said "Cannot detect file type". What I need to do to make VDub recongize the DivX 5.0.

I want to use VDub to frameserve the AVI to Mainconcept MPEG Encoder, which also cannot take DivX format. Are there any guides to make MC to able to read DivX.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools?section=6#6 and download the divx5.0 codec and install it. If that doesn't work go to the same link and download the avifourcc changer and change the fourcc to divx.

In fact I had installed the latest DivX5.1.1. The FourCC code DX50 was also registered in Registry. VirtualDub simply cannot detect the file type for some reasons.

Did you try changing the fourcc to DIVX (not divx5)?
