hi
i have a problem with the newer virtualdub and virtualdub mod.
when i select compresion the program crashes and i get an error message about conflict with four cc code divx
it seems there is an conflict between divx 6 and vitualdub (only newer version my older one still works)
same goes for virtualdubmod .
i tried uninstalling and installing the divx 6 again then for a brief moment the problem seem to be solved
but once i used the divx codec to encode something it encoded the file, but afterwards the problem is back
is there a way to fix this problem,i got a reg divx 6 and i would like to be able to use it.

Can you post the full error message?
Has you encoding worked successfully ever prior to this?
Try using XVID or AVC compression for a moment (on a few frames or sample clip) to see if that induces a crash (just trying to isolate the problem) -

and i can not try any other compresion because
when i go the menu bar video and in the drop down menu select compresion the program crashes
so i can't select even an other codec to use -
I use the latest pro divx codec and the latest vdub/vdubmod with no issues now, however......
You don't by any chance have the Panasonic DV codec installed? I found it messed up in vdub by being selected as the default divx codec by Vdub. I never figured out why that was, so I uninstalled the Pan DV.
btw) I reinstalled the DV codec and it caused the same issue so I just removed it until I need it again. I don't know if the issue is with Panasonic using a reserved fourcc or descriptor or Vdub misinterpreting the fourcc thinking the DV codec is the default mpeg4 (divx) codec. -
Yes, Panasonic DV codec sometimes says it can handle Divx (and other codecs like HuffYUV) and causes a crash. If you need a VFW DV codec use Cedocida. It's much better.

You don't by any chance have the Panasonic DV codec installed?
Seems like I had problems with the Divx 6.8 codec trying to open divx 3.11 files and had to reinstall the 3.11 codec. I had to uncheck "use advanced hardware overlay" in the 6.8 codec configuration utility also.
Post the crash report at...
http://forums.virtualdub.org/
and Avery will be able to tell you exactly what caused the crash and hopefully what to do to correct it. -
hi
i have no panasonic dv codec installed
i tried the new version of virtualdub but got the same error message
i now also have posted me error report on virtualdub forum -
hi
could something like directshow cause such an error
i upgraded my g-spot from 21 to 22
and now i get a simelar error message
the message says that while trying to access directshow, directshow crashed
and the crash is also caused by divx
that's why my question -
The error could be anywhere in Directshow, VFW, the Divx codec, some other installed filter, and VirtualDub.
VirtualDub does it's own AVI file parsing but uses VFW codecs for video decoding.
Most media players use DirectShow so you would be using DirectShow and DirectShow video decoders.
I would just use Xvid instead of Divx.
