Okay you need help, but you have wrote a big paragraph and told us nothing. What are you trying to do? Back-up a movie you own. Author a DVD with some compliant files. You state "any DVD's", please explain what "any is". You state "checked them out with some program", what program? If you don't explain further you can't receive the proper help. So need more information please.

Anything I ttry to burn. I have tried DVD data disc, and I have tried DVD video discs, I've tried copyinf DVD movies, everything that I can think of. And absolutely nothing is working. Nero gives me a "illegal disc error" when I try to burn something even though I know my blank discs are good. Every buring program I have used says my burner is only a 2x even though it's supposed to be a 4x in cd-r and cd+r mode. And I get other such errors when I try other programs.

What version of Nero? If Nero doesn't know your burner, then Nero doesn't work. Try (shudder) the newest version. Or try Recordnow max.

Also try DVDDecryptor and do and ISO copy.

When using Nero, it's -really- easy to start a CD compilation instead of DVD. Start over from the beginning and make sure you chose the right type of project. (I had the -exact- same problem when I first got my burner and almost returned my burner to the store before I figured it out.) I'll all but guarantee you that that's your problem.

Hmm, you have a-lot to learn here, you can cannot burn a 2x DVD disk in 4X cd-r mode!
Sorry I could not resist the urge.

First stop triyng to do everything, consontrate on ONE thing!

The first thing you need are files to burn. What do you have and where did they come from? VHS captures? DVD rip backups? Downloads (I don't want to know this one in detail! )

What type files are they, and what format are they in? Mpeg1, Mpeg2, .vobs??

Have you looked in nero for a drive setting? I have both a CD burner, and DVD burner installed in my mine system. If I set nero to burn a CD, it stays set to cd! I have to MANUALLY chance the setting to DVD when I want to burn DVD, then it stays set to DVD till I decide to burn a cd again.
SO look for a setting for CD or DVD burning.

Have you tryied a a differnet brand disk?

If you are set to CD mode in Nero, it ain't gonna work. If your trying to burn non-compliant files as DVD Video you will get some type of error ect..
Best to start with one thing only and work your way through till that one thing works, then everything probably will.

SO first make sure Nero is dvd mode for burning, then try ONE thing and see if it works.

If you have a 2X disk in the burner then Nero is only going to show 2x no matter how fast the burner is.

No I have not tried other discs, but I don't have any other to try. Yes my blank discs are 4x certified, and yes nero is set to DVD burn. I have the newest version of Nero, and the files have tried to back have been all sorts. Mpg, m2v, avi, data, and nothing will burn. Most the time i've tried i've been trying to back up divx or xvid movies. But I also tried to author a DVD movie with some footage of mine, but nothing works.

  10. Are you trying to write to RW discs? If so, then you need to format them first.

Okay, is anyone else getting this ??
if you are trying to make a dvd to play in a standalone dvd player, with the video_ts & Audio_ts folders, in nero under dvd video files.... just using some footage you have or as Mpg, m2v, avi, data, it's not going to work... or are you just trying to make a data disc with a dvdr ?

I have tried everything. I converted a video to DVD format with Tmpeg to make dvd videos. I have tried makeing a data DVD with lots of differnet formats like .avi .mpg and other data files. And no they are not DVD-RW they are certified DVD-R 4x

I love you Lord Smurf, but you shouldn't make fun of the beginners. You're too smart for that. I listen to much of your advice, and take everything you say seriously, because you are a wealth of knowledge on here. But making fun of someone because they can't figure somethnig out definitely doesn't help your image. Don't make fun of him, help him out. You did it for me, and many others. I respect you for that. Some people on this board thrive off of putting others down for what they dont' know. don't be a part of that crowd. You're too valuable for that.

    fearmyrage please slow down.

PLEASE tell us every step you are taking. PLease describe in DETAIL.

Example - Burning a DIVX file onto DVD in DATA mode using NERO.

    1. Insert DVD-R into DVD burner.

    2. Open Nero Version 5.5.10

    3. Using wizard, choose DVD>NEW DVD COMP>DATA DVD etc.

    4. Find the DIVX file in the directory to the right> Drag to the open file on the left.

    5. Choose DVD Recoder - Pioneer A04

    6. Burn> choose 2x

    7. Choose>muti-session anyway.

    8. Successful burn!

Now, if you describe your process people will be much more willing to help and they will actually have the info to help you.
