    Hi guys
I am new to this forum . I really appreciate if somebody will help me out with my problem
    Thank you very much !
When I open my DVD " VIDEO_TS " folder I have the following content :

    VIDEO_TS 12KB BUP
    VTS_01_0 64KB BUP

    VIDEO_TS 12KB IFO
    VTS_01_0 64KB IFO

    VIDEO_TS 160KB MPEG
    VTS_01_1 1,048,574KB MPEG
    VTS_01_2 1,048,574KB MPEG
    VTS_01_3 1,048,574KB MPEG
    VTS_01_4 1,048,574KB MPEG
    VTS_01_5 270,106KB MPEG

This is the content of a video_ts folder after I simply copy and paste it from a DVD to my hard disk
    Now I have 3 questions:

1 - Why in the type column my computer shows MPEG extension instead of VOB ?
2 - Why I don't need any dvd decryptor software to copy my dvd onto my hard disk !?
3 - And finally in which file the subtitles are embeded ?

Thanks a lot my dear friends .

    1. The type column is not the extension. Set windows explorer to not hide the extension and you will see that it's .vob
    2. Can you play the dvd after you copied to the HDD?
    3. In the vob files. You can rip them to a sub/idx with vsrip or to text subtitles with subrip.

    Dear Baldrick

    Thank you for your answer
I unchecked the Hide extensions for known files and now I see the extensions !
That was a great tip from you although it seemed an easy task . I wonder how I did not know it already !

I can play the DVD after coping to my hard . yes it is playable .

I ripped the subtitle by VobSub . The result is 2 files : idx and sub
Baldrick , can you please tell me how I can convert these two files into a srt file and also is it possible to convert a subtitle file [ wether sub or srt ] to a plain text file without the timing texts . almost like a script ?!

Thanks again and I really appreciate your answer

dvd or sub/idx to srt, https://forum.videohelp.com/topic267416.html

And if you can play it if you just copy it it might be a illegal homeburned dvd but some few commercial dvds has not protection.

It probably has no protection... doen't necessarily make it legal to copy it. Guess that would vary by locality.
