    This chap will try ...

When talking *.avi please be specific - DV AVI or the divx crap.

No audio WHEN ?? after mpeg2 encode or after authoring?

Try encoding seperate "elementry" streams. Then re-encode to AC3 with BeSweet and AC3machine.

Sounds like you downloaded them. This generally means that someone doesn't want you to convert 'their' work. The audio is most likely VBR mp3. This is trickier to convert (you can't drop it into TMPG).

Basically you dump the audio out of VDUB as a PCM. Then in TMPG you use the PCM as your audio source (Audio and Video have seperate inputs).

    Try AVI2WAVE, it's a wonderful tool.

I can post anywhere I please and will continue to do so. I said absolutely nothing hurtful, disrespectful, or unkind. You chose to. I didn't.

Use VDUBMOD. Set Audio to PCM, then save the audio as a seperate stream. You should get a large WAV file.

Try AVI2WAV from the tools section first.

No, well not for a while :c) It can get frustrating with so many ways to go wrong.

Not knowing all the steps you've taken, it's impossible to say.

Best advice is to search in the box at the top right there for "audio video sync or synch" You'll find loads of threads to keep you busy reading. Get a comfy chair and nice drink of your choice.

    Good luck from a Chappette

What did you use to extract the Audio, as it is important. I said AVI2WAV or VDUBMOD. If you used VDUB, then get used to syncless audio. VDUB doesn't do VBR Audio, and sync issues are generally associated VBR audio from pira....bootl....downloaded files.

    And another thing.

Are you by chance trying to convert PAL/NTSC? This is another problem altogether.

  16. when i open virtual dub and select the file it says

"virtual dub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatability. This may produce upto 7580 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder.(bitrate: 159.2 =21.7 kbps)

so what do i have to do then please?

Get AVI2VCD.....a decompressor comes with the program, load ur avi into that and hit decompress. When done, put ur decompressed avi into VD, then u will be able to extract the WAV in full processing mode, like ur meant to.
