I backed up a DVD (The Rock) on Orange Ritek 4x DVD-R. Unfortunately, the DVD does not play on my DVD player, Norcent DP-300. This player has been very good and has played everything I have thrown at it, Princos, Optodisc, other non-orange Riteks etc. It playes on my PC, and at least one other stand-alone DVD player.
    The burner was Optorite DD0203.
I have gone though this site and others, and have not found anybody else complaining. So I wonder.
I'll post the exact media code using DVDinfo later. I bought these disks from allmediaoutlet.com recently.

Few more things. I used Nero to burn the DVD. When it did not play in the Norcent, I then copied the DVD-R to another non-Orange Ritek, on a Cendyne 105, again using Nero. This Ritek played fine in the Norcent.
So it does appear to be a media issue, or may be a burner one.

  3. Please post the DVDinfo for it.
    This is a bit scary.

As promised, I am enclosing DVDInfo output for both Ritek DVD-Rs: first the Orange, mountains on the top, DVD-R that does not play in Norcent DP300, and second, the Ritek 4x, blank top, that plays.
Note that both are RitekG04, but the problem one is 4.7GB but the working one is only 4.48GB. May be there are some other differences.

I have determined it to be problem with the Optorite burner. The Orange Riteks burn fine on my Cendyne/Pioneer 105, and play fine on the Norcent DP300 if burned in the Pioneer.
I never upgraded the firmware on the Optorite. May be that is what he problem is. I'll upgrade the firmware and report if the problem goes away.

Glad you found the problem. I've burned 100 of these and will probably buy another 100 soon after my BestBuy TDKs are gone. Never had a problem with them.

Others are complaining about the Optorite burner too:
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=180806

It seems that there is a problem with this burner that would need a firmware update. There might be a workaround as the above thread is suggesting. Or it seems that burning DVD+Rs instead of DVD-Rs works fine.
