  1. I started learning how to author DVDs about a month ago and have come across many programs that I have fallen in love with for various reasons. What are your favorite tools and why?

    Mine:

    1) IfoEdit - What can't this program do besides make menus? A better GUI and menu creation would put this over the top.
    2) DVD Decrypter - IMHO the best DVD ripper around. Rips in three modes and can demux audio/video streams.
    3) VobMerge 2.1 - Join your VOBs, demuxed mv2, AC3, etc. A great tool!
    3) SubRip 1.17 - Rip the subtitle stream from VOBs and edit.
    4) srt2sup - Convert your files from SubRip to a compliant sup file for IfoEdit.
    5) Ulead Movie Factory 2 - Honestly I haven't even used it yet, but it's supposed to be user friendly.

  2. WinDV: A solid workaround for the FAT32 4GB filesize limit.
VirtualDub: The ability to append .avi files and frameserve them.
TMPGEnc: The ability to accept VirtualDub's frameserving routine.
    DVD-Lab: Loaded!

DVD Lab hands down for authoring.

so far, the only limitation I've run into is my meager imagination... everything I think up to do, it can do.

for content creation - iuVCR, TMPG, Vegas Video, Virtualdub, Photoshop.
