  1. Here's a rather dumb question.

    There probably isn't a solution to this, but is there a way to tell if a DVD (that was just bought from a store) is single layered (DVD-5) or dual layered (DVD-9)?

    It says it on the back of the box of the dvd movie in some cases, but not a lot.

    I'm specifically wondering if there's a way to tell if its dual without putting the dvd into a DVD-ROM, player, or any other computer device.

    Weird question, I know, but if anyone has any tricks of knowing, let me know.

    thanks

    from my understanding... and dont quote me on this as i might be wrong... but

    turn the DVD over, and look at the coloring of the disc. normally DVD-5's are silver in color, while DVD-9's are more of a goldish. It may not be perfect... but hey thats how i do it

    Open DVDDecrypter and click on MODE-ISO-READ and look at "number of layers"

    of coarse 1=Single
    2=Dual

    Same here...

    I have made a game out of it. Everytime I get my hands on a DVD, that's the first thing I look for. At first I made errors. Now I'm improving. Although I've seen some dual layered ones that are so shiny you wouldn't believe they are dual layered. I have one of those and, interestingly, it rips quite faster than the other dual layered ones...
    The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

    That's also the first thing I look at, whether it's single or dual-layered. :P
