Alright i am trying to burn my first vcd from a divx file and am using virtual dub to make a .wav file. Is it a problem that the file ends up being 1gb??

All is fine... vdub has just taken the compressed soundtrack of the avi file and expanded it to a non-compressed wav file. This is so when you re-encode to an mpeg, your encoder won't encounter variable bitrates in the soundtrack (from the DivX source) that would probably cause audio synch problems.
A wav file that is 1½-2hrs long can easily reach sizes over a gig. -
Uncompressed PCM audio is approx 10mb/min so for a 100 min film the PCM wav file will be 1 gig.
