I've been using Virtual Dub to edit my avi's for some time now but have always struggled with what I'm sure is a simple problem: whenever I load a clip to edit, the audio quits about 1 second after I press the play button.
It goes without saying, it's more than a bit difficult to find a precise edit point without the audio. What am I doing wrong?
Any help?

I've always found the audio playback to be patchy at best in virtualdub and its variants. However most of the time I am throwing 1536kbps WAV at it. I've always assumed that it's a horsepower thing. I've just learnt to be more visually observant whilst playing the file back in WMP and then writing down the timecodes from there. If in doubt, Google it.

Generally speaking, VirtualDub is not a great media player ---
however there may be various factors that can make things even worse.
At least over here (a 7-yo Pentium IV) VirtualDub has difficulties only to
playback Avisynth scripts, even the simple ones (which are a non-issue to
 Media Player Classic, OTOH).
