I am aware that we are not authorized to post about political stuff, but I am wondering if that very recent California court ruling against Meta and Google could be discussed in Off-topic, as it relates to the forward progress of the Internet in general?
My worry, and reason to ask, is that it may have to go just a tad into politics. There are more and more Net regulatory aspects of Net operations all over the globe and it seems a site like this can't really move forward by ignoring these new trends.
IF --- Big IF --- If you are worried about having enough Team members to help moderate such a new style, I would volunteer my time a few hours a day to help with that job. I can assure you I have experience at that. And I can prove that, as long as the Admin/Mod Team members keep that "proof" provided confidential.
Frankly, having a "Video Help" Community discussion without an ability (authorization) to discuss the governing of a site like YouTube is sort of stringent and can't help this site evolve into a more robust Community. And, yes, I do understand the dangers of any change in policy. But a request for some discussion of change should not itself be a bad thing, should it?

Who will eventually be chosen to regulate the Internet?

The Off Topic subforum is what you want.
Do we want it to evolve? I don't. I see this site as a purely technical site for creating and editing video. Apart from getting the encoding parameters optimised for YT, I see nothing at all in common with VH and the management of YT. Nothing we say here will influence the wheels of regulation. There's no point in even trying, IMO. Besides, I'm sure there are plenty of other sites on the Internet where you can make your point.Frankly, having a "Video Help" Community discussion without an ability (authorization) to discuss the governing of a site like YouTube is sort of stringent and can't help this site evolve into a more robust Community. -
Yes, I got it that it would be in "Off topic" but I was asking for permission.
I also appreciate the idea of keeping all topics throughout the Community on a technical footing only, but how many folks in this Community have their own websites? In just the last 12 hours since I posted that the media has been taking serious note of the ramifications that could arise from that court decision.
Just within the last hour BBC published a lead story by their tech editor stating this could be the end of social media.
Yes, that is quite a stretch, but if an appeals court doesn't overturn that lower court decision, this could be a big problem for even small website owners.
As for the idea that this should only be discussed outside this Community; I best not offer a public view of that line of thought, if that is okay. Well, if anyone even cares.Who will eventually be chosen to regulate the Internet? -
Nope. We do not need politics here. Even if this court ruling could affect all forums.
