I have always had Pinnacle 710 crossbar and Pinnacle 710 USB. After I did my clean install of windows 10 when I clicked on Pinnacle 710 USB I only had tabs for video decoder and video proc amp until I opened Pinnacle studios 11 then I had all of my options after I clicked Pinnacle 710 USB which included audio. You might be able to do graph edit. I couldn’t get graph edit to work for me though. I also am inexperienced with graph edit so maybe that why.

  2. Strange thing that I noticed is when I connect pinnacle usb to my laptop (tried a few laptops with Win 7 and Win 10//11) with correct driver installed from dvd. I don't get any picture in Pinnacle studio via s-video or sound. And then while in Studio I disconnect usb cable and reconnect again and picture and sound are there. Strange problem and I'm sure it's not normal to get it work like that.

The correct driver version is 4.0.46.0. It’s in the picture on my crossbar.

My 710-USB (purchased from Lordsmurf) stopped working on Win 10 64bit a couple of years ago. Completely dead now on Win 10 VDub and AmarecTV, same on Win 11. Oddly, the DV>USB transfer still works great.

I had all sorts of dramas getting it going originally and quite frankly, it was a waste of money.

  6. I ordered Hauppauge USB-Live2 for my Win. laptop, and elgato I had before will be for my macbook pro. I will ditch that pinnacle 710 device, it may look cool a lot of inputs and outputs, but at the end picture (when it works) is same comparing it to my elgato (@3.5Mbps). So no need to bother with drivers like Alwyn said it's just a waste of time trying it to get work. I know it's old device no support anymore bla bla but they said it supports officialy Win 7, and on my Win 7 it's not working as it should. I did already waste all day trying different OS different laptops with different USB 2.0 chips. No luck.

When I test captured in Pinnacle studios in looked a lot more unstable than in Virtualdub. It’s better than an easycap. I wouldn’t judge the card by the studios capture. Good you ordered something you might like better though.

  8. I'll try quick few more things when I get home from work, and that's it. Already spent too much time on that "recommended capturing card" waste of time and money, it's garbage even with quality chipset inside.

I never had problems setting up the card. Mine worked well off the bat. It wasn’t till I did a clean install of windows 10 that I had an issue. I just did what LS said to do to set it up. I used LS’s timing settings and all of that. I did try not checking force the audio clock at one point and the audio is really choppy on preview then so I checked to force the audio clock again. When I lost audio after the clean install I tried deleting the Virtualdub.org registry with regedit because the tool that comes with virtualdub deletes the wrong registry. I changed computers. Bought a new card from LS. Everything I had plugged that 710 into did that until I used the Pinnacle Studios DVD. No idea why. It was a holy crap that actually worked moment. I like the card but everybody has their own opinion. I don’t think it works well with AmerecTv though. I also haven’t heard of anyone using it in Virtualdub with no frame sync device or no frame TBC and it not dropping or inserting frames.

You can get on dfaq and talk to people that know more than me about that card if you want. You could also just buy a
Haugpauge or whatever you want. Troubleshooting can be a pain.

  10. I feel stupid now really.

I said after work I'm going to test it one more time, and I did. And now every time I open Pinnacle Studio it's working, video and sound. But I didn't touch anything except shutdown laptop from yesterday, strange. I said let's test it in Virtualdub, and wow I got picture there too right from the start in preview, but still no sound.
I was thinking let's capture something just to check and see how picture is, and I did. At the start of capturing picture lag a bit in preview mode for few seconds and after that it's normal. When I open that file that I captured, it runs normal from the start without any lag start plus I got sound but it's out of sync with video. But still it works in Pinnacle studio now without problem I can capture in DV and then work with file in Virtualdub.

DV halves your chroma. It’s better to capture losslessly. I believe WinDV is more recommended for capturing DV. https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/video-capture/13347-710-usb-capturing.html You probably will have less sync errors with DV but you can buy gear to fix drop/inserted frames.

The Pinnacle 710 does have an ADV chip in front of the video decoder chip that helps with some of the problems from a poor quality signal. If you have timing errors get a TBC or some pass through device and take out your pass through device if it’s not needed because it causes issues. Which is what Lollo is referring to with this comment.

Which may not be the problem here, nor is always recommended, accordingly to the conditions of the tapes.

However my minty late gen TBC 3000 that has never been shipped from person to person and has only been used on a few tapes and has been stored well since it was bought is never recommended to be left out of the workflow. The proc amp is strong. More than I’ve needed. No noise that I see. It’s not something I am supposed to leave out because the tape is in good shape. I never use the capture card video drivers.

The Svideo inputs on the back of the TBC 3000s are very snug. I’ve heard LS say that also. I wouldn’t want to be plugging and unplugging Svideo cables to take it in and out of the workflow. Especially since even though I know there is a conversion it looks completely transparent to me.

  16. Got Hauppauge USB-Live2 yesterday and test it. Thing works in everything. Only few times when I ran some playback and touch some options in VirtualDub during that option modification video starts to lag, and it lags constantly until I turn off VirtualDub and start again. I assume that's normal. I'll continue using elgato on macbook, because on mac it works way better than on PC. And Pinnacle 710 I will use on another laptop.
