  1. I'm use here not the original VCD and DVD resolution because content is widescreen.

    HD to SD VCD widescreen 512x288 (a lot of aliasing)

    HD to SD PAL+ widescreen 1024x576 (litle aliasing)

    HD to VHS, back to 720x576 (no aliasing)

    HD to VHS back to 1920x1080 (no aliasing)

  3. You can't convert HD to SD in the analog domain. It was digitized before downscaling. Whatever did that blurred and antialiased the digital video.

  4. It was 1080p HD and recorded on VHS by RCA.

    You say 1080p HD Digital > 1080p HD analog > SD analog VHS. (or what resolution VHS use
    If i'm right RCA can delivery HD analog, that is only possible at component (Red/Blue/Green) cable at 1080i.
