  1. I've used Nero (with the MPEG plug-in) and Sonic MyDVD to make VCDs and SVCDs. Both programs say they create the discs successfully, but the discs won't play in either my Sony or Apex DVD players (both players say they play VCDs on the front).

I'm computer-literate, and can't think of anything else to try, other than some other software. Also I'm sure the video files were encoded properly, otherwise both programs notify me before burning (Nero even reencodes the files automatically).

Does it make a difference whether the CD-Rs are 74- or 80-minutes? Also I've tried different brands.

    Thanks for any help.

Have you tried to format your video into TMPGEnc's Templates?

  3. I've use 74 and 80 and they always work. I've even used the cheapest brands and Nero always work. Try three things:

    1. Install Nero again different directory
    2. Use TMPGenc download a new one and makesure you use the default templates
    3. Try different players go to the store and play your VCD.
    Good Luck!

No, it is a shareware/freeware (depending on the options you want) that converts video files into DVD, (S)VCD format, AVI or Wave. It aslo has so many other functions as well.

Since I intend to dazzle you with my brevity, I will give you this site's guide to it. And please read the Newbie Guides. They are there to answer a lot of the questions you may have in the future.

Is it just me or does it seem most people coming to this site lately just jump into the forums without bothering to read a single word in the how-to guides? To the original poster I suggest you start there and anyone else who's just starting out. If you have a problem or if there is a step you just don't get then this is the place to come. I mean come on, a newbie placing this topic in advanced conversion?? Just my 2 cents worth for the day.

Sorry Tommyknocker but I felt it was something that needed to be said. Baldrick has only so much server space and with all the how-to guides here so many basic questions would be answered only if people would take the time to read.

  11. Well if you can tell me where the solution to my problem is in the FAQs and Guides I'd love to know.

I already used something similar to TMPGenc to convert the files in VCD-ready clips, and then tried using the new clips with Nero and Sonic MyDVD again and still got the same results. I've also used 3 different versions of TMPGenc that kept crashing but I'll try downloading it again from the link above.

My computer's DVD player will actually recognize and *barely* sloooowly play the VCDs created with Nero.

I'm not sure what else to do though...I've used different software and DVD players and converters before using the software and still nothing. I guess I will just keep trying new software and taking the discs to Best Buy to test them.

This may be a silly question but a simple one. Your DVD players may play VCD but are they compatible with cdr. Try using a cdrw instead coz my panasonic says it wont play either but it will read cdrw.

  13. Cool cool that's the kind of advice I was lookin for I'll try that. If it works then I'll also know that I'm actually burning the discs correctly and could then find a player that will play regular CD-Rs. Maybe some of these DVD players that say they play VCDs only are tested for factory-pressed VCDs....

  14. My cheap version to check to see if you made your VCD correctly. Explore the CD and these folders should be there (Nero created them)

CDi, Ext, MPegav, Segment, and VCD.

    Open MPegav folder

You should find a Avseq01.dat file

Right click and choose the open with option. Pick Windows Media Player. If it plays then it should work on a DVD player that can play VCD.

    Good Luck!
