I just bought a Insignia 10.2" portable DVD player
It plays my DVDs, DVD-R, Divx on DVDs fine.
But I put in my VCDs (store bought and CD-R) and it says "Unknown Disk"
I put in a burned CD-R with a Divx movie and it plays.
It just doesn't play my VCDs.
Any way to get this to work??
I thought all DVD players play VCDs, even my old ancient DVD players do.

If the player doesn't support VCD, can I rip out the .dat file from the VCD (there are 2 CD disks for each movie)
and then somehow put it on a DVD-R?
Or I can fit many VCD movies onto a DVD?
If so, how? -
vcd and svcd formats are quickly going the way of the dodo bird. lots of new players support neither format. make sure to check the formats listed on the outside of the carton before buying a player if a specific format is important to you.

i believe you can rip the mpeg-1(not the .dat, use vcdeasy or isobuster to extract) and re-author them directly to dvdr. they are what? usually 700mb each so maybe 6 on a dvdr. best to make the first one a dvd-rw if the player supports it just to check if it works on yours. better yet would be to ditch those old low resolution vcds and use a dvd source to make a dvdr.
